At Misericordia University, Dallas, Pa., Wednesday October 7, 2015, Tibetan monk Lob Sang Tson Du from Gaden Shartse Phukhang Monastery works on the creation of sand mandala, one of the most unique and exquisite traditions of Tantreic Buddhism. The purpose of the Phukhang visit is to share the monks’ culture, as well as practices and paths to inner peace and compassion. They will create a sand mandala throughout the week in the Pauly Friedman Art Gallery. Upon completion of the mandala, the monks will destroy the work of art. In upholding the principle that life is transient, the monks will sweep up the mandala and place the sand in a nearby body of water as an offering to purify the surrounding environment and to bless the area with positive energies.
